Umbria

Umbria is a small region but with high level of cultivated vineyards, the production of wine is focused in the hilly areas where the land produces a lower yield of high quality grapes.  The characteristics of this area are particularly suited to production of high quality wines.

Umbria produces mainly red wine, the Torgano Rosso, produced from the Sangiovese grape and the Sagrantino di Monte Falco made from the grape of the same name.  Montefalco is representative of the regions wine production and is a full bodied red wine with intense tannins, a reputable Italian wine that does not loose its quality over time.

In regard to white wine, the most significant wines are the Trebbiano Toscano and the local Grechetto, from the town of Orvieto where they also produce a sweet wine.
