The expansive and mostly flat region of Emilia Romagna has long been considered one of the main producers of Italian table wine such as Sangiovese, Trebbiano and the sparkling wine Lambrusco.  

In recent years the region has sought to raise the quality of wine production, particularly in Rimini, where they have focused their efforts to produce Sangiovese under the correct conditions, resulting in a product that is comparable to the Tuscan Sangiovese.
